How to Handle Stress at Work | Importance of Health and Fitness

Internationally, stress is a common subject concerning the workplace. People are under the constant pressure of working harder and producing more everyday. This can lead to an overload of stress and resulting in instability and nervousness in the mind and body.

Stress response is your body?s defense mechanism shifting to high gear in stressful situations. It is a type of automatic mechanism that protects people from the stress of life. Some examples may be presentations at work, preparing for tests and meetings, it gives you the ability to tackle these stressful situations. It gives you the ability to improve your skills and achieve your goals successfully, while dealing with your stress appropriately.

On the other hand, beyond certain levels, stress can cause psychological and physiological trauma leading to strained relations, performance related situations and more. To overcome these symptoms, its important to start analyzing yourself, isolate those activities that are causing the stress, create a technique to effectively tackle that particular activity without becoming overwhelmed and apply the same in other situations in your life.

Symptoms

The symptoms of stress may vary, they are usually placed under the 4 following types:

Cognitive symptoms relates to slip of memory, constant worrying, pessimistic thoughts and difficulty concentrating.

Physical symptoms include muscle pain, digestive problems, excessive colds, fast heartbeat and low sex drive

Behavioral symptoms are sleeping disorders, use of alcohol and/or drugs, cigarettes, changes in eating habits, and nervous feelings.

Emotional symptoms are depression, over excitement, short temper, loneliness, mood swings and more.

To overcome from these symptoms you need to analyze your ability to tolerate stress. To improve your stress tolerance level, it is advisable for you to develop a positive attitude, as stressful conditions creates a negative impact on the mind. So you should look for ways to develop a positive attitude and control your emotions and temper. Search for ways to stay calm and composed so you canhave the ability to make rational decisions.If at all possible, try to keep a solid support network of friends and family members that can provide you with guidance under stress, and help in improving your tolerance level. This gives you the ability to have the confidence to face challenges, take control of situations, manage stressful events.

Conclusion

Health care providers are overwhelmed by patients suffering from stress everyday. Try some self help techniques, if your symptoms are not extensive. Make sure you analyze your situation, first. Before you begin your day, include some relaxation techniques and finding your inner being. Including yoga, some breathing techniques and meditation adds energy to your body and mind, adding balance to your day. If you need to divert your attention suddenly, try going for a walk or listen to some music that you enjoy. It is easier to manage sudden stress symptoms by distracting your attention from them. Your health care provider should be contacted immediately if your symptoms worsen.
