Orioles rip Red Sox, keep pressure on NY

BALTIMORE (AP) - Chris Tillman already has more wins in 2012 than the combined total over his first three years in the big leagues.

That might come as a shock, except nothing the Baltimore Orioles do this season is all that surprising anymore.

Tillman pitched eight innings of one-hit ball, Ryan Flaherty hit his first career grand slam and the Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 9-1 on Friday night remain a game out of first place in the AL East.

Chris Davis hit a two-run homer as the Orioles kept pace with the division-leading Yankees, who beat Toronto 11-4. Baltimore also tightened its grip on the top AL wild-card spot.

Tillman (9-2) gave up a bunt single to leadoff hitter Scott Podsednik, then allowed only two walks the rest of the way in his longest outing since July 4. The right-hander retired the final 14 batters he faced, and the only run he allowed was unearned.

Tillman came to spring training with a 7-15 lifetime record. Although he pitched well in camp, he began the season with Triple-A Norfolk and remained there until July. In his last 12 starts, the 24-year-old is 8-1 with a 3.00 ERA and has become one of the most effective starters on the staff.

"He's one win away from winning 10 games, but we hopefully have bigger fish to fry," manager Buck Showalter said. "He keeps putting himself in a position to be worthy of getting the ball."

Said Tillman: "I feel like I'm confident in my delivery, and when you have confidence in that, things will play out well for you. I just got to take it pitch-by-pitch and not get too worried about the next inning or the next game. One step at a time."

Troy Patton worked the ninth to complete the one-hitter.

It was the 90th win for the Orioles, who went 69-93 last season. If Baltimore wins three of its last five games it will make the postseason, regardless of how the other contenders fare.

Boston has lost 14 of 20. Starter Aaron Cook (4-11) went one-plus innings, allowing six runs, five hits and three walks. Only 18 of his 42 pitches were strikes.

"I wasn't making pitches. I was behind, and when I did come in there they hit balls over the fence," Cook said.

Asked what he might have done differently to be successful, Cook replied, "Not walk (anyone) and not give up hits."

Flaherty, a Rule 5 rookie, became the latest in a long line of heroes during the Orioles' improbable season. He was batting .225 with five homers and 14 RBIs in 72 games before connecting to cap a six-run first inning that included a two-run drive by Davis.

Flaherty also doubled in a run in the fifth. The five RBIs were two more than his previous career high, and it was only the third time he drove in more than one run in a game.

"Yeah, it seems like every night it's someone new," Flaherty said. "Whether it is a pitcher, a hitter, a play in the field, something. We'll keep riding it."

Baltimore has hit nine homers in its last two games and has 122 at home, eclipsing the season record of 121 set in 1996.

In addition, the Orioles reached a positive run differential - 697-690 - for the first time since June 24.

Boston scored an unearned run in the first inning. Podsednik bunted to the right side and reached second when Flaherty's throw went wide of first baseman Mark Reynolds. Two batters later, Dustin Pedroia hit a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom half, Nate McLouth singled on Cook's first pitch and Davis hit a drive into the seats in right. After two singles and a walk loaded the bases, Flaherty sent a 2-1 breaking ball deep into the night for a 6-1 lead.

Successive doubles by Reynolds, Manny Machado and Flaherty, along with an RBI single by Taylor Teagarden, made it 9-1 in the fifth.

NOTES: Orioles C Matt Wieters wasn't at the ballpark after his wife gave birth to the couple's first child, Maverick Luther, earlier in the day. ... Red Sox CF Jacoby Ellsbury, out since Sept. 20 with an unspecified injury, could return to the lineup as soon as Saturday, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. ... Orioles rookie Steve Johnson (4-0) will start on Saturday night against Felix Doubront, who's got a 2.08 ERA in three starts against Baltimore this year. ... The crowd of 33,518 boosted home attendance for the season over 2 million for the first time since 2007. ... Cook is 0-3 with an 11.93 ERA in four starts against the Orioles in 2012.

This 1964 Ford Mustang Ad Could Not Possibly Be More Boring

This 1964 Ford Mustang Ad Could Not Possibly Be More Boring I've been effusive in my praise of the first-gen Mustang in previous posts. I think it fully deserves the credit. The original Mustang was one of the most important cars ever made, and its design still looks great today. The baby boomer generation must have seen it as sex on wheels compared to the hulking, staid sedans their parents drove.

So how do you sell the Mustang to young people? Simple: you make the most boring commercial you possibly can. Wait, what?

That's exactly the approach Ford took when they made this ad, and it is quite possibly the most boring ad for a sporty car that I have ever seen. We see a young-ish stylist slaving over blueprints, striving to give the car a look of "total performance." Then the narrator goes on and on about the padded instrument panel, the sculpted side panels, the round rear openings and BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Get to the point, skip. I want to hear about engines and horsepower quotes. I want to see the car driving really fast. I want to see the driver actually having fun!

Oh look, it's driving next to some horses. I think I just fell asleep in my cereal bowl.

Luckily, Ford didn't need great ads for the Mustang to be a hit. The car started a revolution almost overnight, and for that, we're all better off. All I know is that Don Draper wouldn't have signed off on this ad. Way too boring.

What do you think of this ad, and classic Mustangs in general?

Update: As a few of you astute folks have pointed out in the comments, this may have been a dealer training film rather than a TV ad. Good eye! But it's still boring. Really, really boring.

Root and Recovery for the Sony Xperia T

Root and Recovery for the Sony Xperia T

It is always exciting when a new device is rooted. It means that users can enjoy the freedom of a rooted device, usually resulting in options such as custom recoveries, and so on. Of course, it?s always better when a device gets both at once. The Sony Xperia T is the latest device to get both root and recovery.

The method is something many of us have dealt with before. It involves unlocking the device?s bootloader and installing an insecure kernel. XDA Recognized Contributor krabappel2548?released an insecure kernel that helps get users rooted. The kernel features include:

- Autoroot
- Busybox
- Init.d support
- Insecure
- Debuggable
- CWM included

To install it, you?ll need the Android SDK. From there, download the kernel and place it in the same folder with ADB and Fastboot. Then, use Terminal or Command Prompt to flash it via Fastboot.

There are actually two kernels available. One for root and a second for root and recovery. Additionally, krabappel2548 has included the stock kernel. If you?d like to know more, go to the original thread.

ZTE shows off new V98 Windows 8 slate, we go hands-on

ZTE shows off its first Windows 8 slate, we go handson

Intel outed just outed its new Atom SoC, and at its tablet event in San Francisco today, the company had a whole slew of slates packing the Clover Trail silicon on hand. Dell's Latitude 10, the ASUS Tablet 810, Acer's Iconia W510 and W700, Lenovo's ThinkPad 2, the HP Envy x2 and Samsung's Series 5 were all there. However, it was the handsome slice of Windows 8 from ZTE that really caught our attention. Called the V98, it has a 10.1-inch, 1366 x 768 LCD on top of an aluminum chassis with a beveled edge similar to what you'd find on a white iPhone 5. Beneath that handsome exterior is the aforementioned Intel Z2760 chipset, 64GB of ROM, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (plus a microSD slot if you need more digital space). There's 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, tri-band UMTS and quad-band GSM radios, plus NFC and LTE can be had as options. It's got an accelerometer, proximity and ambient light sensors, a magnetometer and a gyro, too. An 8-megapixel camera is stuck in the back, while a 2-megapixel shooter resides round front. ZTE managed to stuff all that and a 7,000mAh battery inside a svelte 8.9mm-thin package.

We got to spend a little bit of time with a prototype ZTE model, and found the hardware to be solid for a hand-built unit. Its aluminum chassis makes for quite a rigid device in hand, and the machined and polished bevel gives the V98 a very high-end look. The chromed plastic volume rocker, power button and screen orientation lock switch nestled in the plastic radio reception strip at the top of the device are decidedly less luxurious, however -- the travel of each was shallow, and the finish on the plastic appeared a bit cheap to our eyes. That said, the rotating magnetic aluminum door that reveals the SD card and SIM slots is slick -- far easier to open and close than the plastic port covers found on most other slates. There's also a 30-pin docking port on the bottom edge of the tablet, but ZTE informed us it'd be another month or so before the dock is ready for public consumption. Unfortunately, the V98 won't be available for purchase until Q1 of next year, but you can see if its worth waiting for in our gallery of shots below.

Silk holds the key to devices that dissolve after use

Wrapping something up in silk needn't be just for the sake of achieving a luxurious look. Silk coatings may herald a new breed of electronics that melts away when no longer needed. This could lead to environmentally friendly devices, implants which break down naturally in the body, even self-destructing spy cameras.

A collaboration between electronic engineers, biophysicists and material scientists has led to the creation of nanometre-thick devices with lifespans controlled precisely by an envelope of silk, which is built to degrade at a certain rate.

One test device, a heating circuit powered by beaming radio waves at it, was implanted under the skin of a rat. The idea is to control post-surgical infection by raising the temperature locally if needed, killing bacteria. After the wound has healed, the implant simply melts away.

At the request of US military research agency DARPA ? which funded the work ? the group also built a tiny, dissolvable digital camera. "DARPA have a lot of ideas for applications that are all classified, so I can't say anything about it," says John Rogers of the University of Illinois in Chicago, who led the research.

Flexible lifespan

The lifespan of the silk packaging is easily controlled by varying its crystalline structure and thus the degree to which liquids like water can attack it, explains Fiorenzo Omenetto of Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. This means the silk can disintegrate after just a few minutes, or over months or even years.

Team members at Rogers' lab at the University of Illinois built the electronics ? thin, flexible components including antennas and temperature sensors, using magnesium and silicon. The materials are not toxic and the amounts used are so small that they can dissolve quickly in liquid environments like the body. A conventional, millimetre-thick chip would take about 1000 years to dissolve, Rogers says, but the tiny amounts of material used in these new devices can disappear in about two weeks.

The animal implants were carried out at Tufts. One of Tufts' lead authors on the paper, Hu Tao, points out that blood vessels grew into and around the silk package. "This shows that silk is totally biocompatible," he says. Omenetto says no inflammation was seen where the devices were inserted and subsequently dissolved.

The combination of silk and silicon has potential beyond medical implants, and Rogers suggests that the concept of limited-lifespan electronics will foster novel applications. Omenetto's silk material is plasticky and stiff, and looks and feels more like an acetate slide than a silk dress or spider's web, making it an intriguing candidate for biodegradable displays in smartphones, for instance. His group has already made dental implants from the material.

"The achievement here is remarkable," says Chris Bettinger, who works on organic electronics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He says that environmental applications are intriguing, but suggests that the real benefits will be in medicine, cutting out the cost of removing implants which are no longer needed.

After chief resigns, town's only certified officer is a dog

By NBC News and wire

VAUGHN, N.M.-- A drug-sniffing dog now is the only certified member of the police force in the small eastern New Mexico town of Vaughn.

Police Chief Ernest "Chris" Armijo decided to step down Wednesday after news stories reported that he wasn't allowed to carry a gun because of his criminal background.?

"He decided the attention was distracting," said Dave Romero, an attorney for the town.?

State officials said Armijo couldn't carry a gun since acknowledging that he owed tens of thousands of dollars in delinquent child support payments in Texas. Armijo also faces new felony charges after being accused of selling a town-owned rifle and pocketing the cash.?

Romero said Armijo is working to clear up the latest case. He said Armijo has not ruled out seeking the police chief's position again if his case is resolved and the position is open.?

According to NBC affiliate KOB.com in New Mexico, Armijo's annual salary is less than $30,000. Because he can't own a gun or any ammunition, he sold an assault rifle he owned to Guadalupe Sheriff's Deputy Juan Sanchez in January for $250, KOB.com reported.

A second police officer in Vaughn, Brian Bernal, was hired in the spring, but he had his own legal problems: In January of 2011, Bernal pleaded guilty to assault and battery against a household member, which prohibits him from owning a firearm by federal law, KOB.com said.

Now, according to records, the only qualified member of the Vaughn Police Department is Nikka, a drug-sniffing dog. Non-certified officers can't make arrests and can't carry firearms.?

But Romero said not having an officer qualified to carry a gun didn't put Vaughn at risk. "England doesn't allow police officers to carry guns," he said. "Sometime the strongest weapon in law enforcement is communication."?

Vaughn, a town of about 450 located 104 miles east of Albuquerque, is a quiet place that is an overnight stop for railroad workers.

While residents maintain there is no crime problem, the town is set deep in what U.S. officials say is an area popular with drug traffickers. The desolate roads in Guadalupe County make it hard for authorities to catch smugglers moving drugs from Mexico.?

Guadalupe County Sheriff Michael Lucero said since news about the police chief's record became public his department has helped patrol Vaughn. But he said those efforts have put a slight strain on his already short-staffed department.?

"I visit the town at least once a month," said Lucero. "The important thing is to keep a presence so residents know we're there to help if we're needed."?

Romero said town officials are considering whether to hire another police chief or keep the department staffed with just one officer. He said it's unclear whether the town will keep the police dog, which had been in Armijo's care.?

When approached by a reporter from The Associated Press at his Vaughn home, Armijo said he had no comment, and he declined to grant access to the canine for photographs or video.?

The dog's kennel could be seen in Armijo's backyard, and a police truck marked "K-9" was parked in his driveway.?

At Penny's Diner, residents said they were embarrassed by the attention the episode has put on the small town.?

"There's just a whole lot of nothing going on here," said cook Joyce Tabor. "We have very little crime. It's quiet. So this really doesn't matter."

Armijo told KOB.com in June that he didn't feel he needed a gun to do his job.?

?We have tasers, batons, mace ? stuff like that,? Armijo said. "This isn't a TV show. This is life. We don't run in every day with a gun drawn. Life isn't in a pistol grip. It's how you talk to people. I wasn't the type of person to go, 'I'm a cop, now give me my badge and my chip on my shoulder.' That's not me."

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Non-Profit or Business ? Your Web Host is the Best Business Partner

The mission for all non-profit organizations is to create awareness of an issue or mission. With a need to draw attention to child abuse, The Lincoln County Children?s Advocacy Center (www.childrensadvocacycenter.net) in Newport, Oregon is no different. Unfortunately, this goal presented quite the challenge for the organization as its details were buried deep inside the county?s website. The limited visibility and accessibility caused the group to re-evaluate its? strategy. They knew that in order to effectively provide information about their cause, they would need to create a more impressive online presence.

?The Center wanted to provide education to the public about child abuse, prevention and opportunities to support the small, non-profit agency,? said Pam Salisbury of the Lincoln County Children?s Advocacy Center. The ability to express this message and great cause within their provided resources was extremely difficult. Searching for alternative solutions, the group was cautious to develop a website as they believed that they did not have the resources or skills needed to succeed.

?We thought a website for the organization would be too expensive and overly complicated for the average person to maintain,? Salisbury said. A sense of relief came when Salisbury explored Web hosting options and found 1&1 Internet. ?The 1&1 MyWebsite was cost effective, easy to maintain and provided responsive support.?

With a successful Web presence, the Lincoln County Children?s Advocacy Center can now effectively raise awareness and gain the attention it deserves.

By taking the leap into the online world, other non-profit organizations or businesses can see the same success that the Lincoln County Children?s Advocacy Center experienced. By choosing the right Web host as your business partner, your company will be accessible to the masses in no time.

  • Inclusive Solutions ? Bundling your online needs within one package can save on cost while streamlining your invoices. All businesses should have a specific domain name and set of domain-specific email addresses. Therefore, look at options that include such features within the hosting package as well as marketing tools to help leverage your business online.
  • Technical Features ? Factors like security, data storage, Web space and bandwidth, or Web traffic, can affect how well your website operates and adapts as your business grows. Be sure that you commit to a solution which offers unlimited or high allocation to these features.
  • Budget Friendly ? Not all businesses share the same budget for their online strategy. Most hosts provide a variety of online solutions to fit a wide range of price points. Be sure to pick one that will fit your needs and monetary restrictions.
  • Potential to Upgrade ? You may be just starting your business but you should still explore the more complex options with Web hosts. As your company grows, you may demand more from your provider so be sure that the host you chose can accommodate your upgrading needs ? even if it is a few years down the line.

Gaming In The Cloud Is Great News For Players, If The Industry Can ...

Yesterday, gaming giant Electronic Arts acquired Swedish gaming company ESN, which creates web- and cloud-based services for game developers. It's further proof that EA is bolstering its cloud-gaming services to keep up with its audience, which is now as used to web and mobile social games as it is traditional video games, such as EA's Fifa or Madden NFL.

Cloud gaming poses a potentially significant threat to gaming industry stalwarts because it makes the need to buy hard copies of video games obsolete. When you're streaming and playing from the cloud, you don't need to wait months or years on a lead time for the newest version of a game--it's simply expected that as developers make improvements, you'll see those updates reflected in your games much more quickly, the way frequent app updates work on your smartphone. That's generally great news for gamers as, in theory, it means new games will be the latest and greatest versions of all the time.

But it's not great news for EA-type games publishers and console makers. Naturally, EA's not alone in this game of catch-up. Sony is another big player making bets on cloud gaming. In July, Sony acquired streaming video-game maker Gaikai for $380 million to bring its gaming services to the cloud, where it's free to stream to any device, not just Sony-produced ones such as the PlayStation.

A Global Industry Analysts report projects the cloud gaming market will hit $2 billion by 2018. That may seem paltry compared to the $78.5 billion the global video game market is projected to make in revenue this year, but $2 billion is more significant when you compare it to the much tamer $8.5 billion of total revenue that's coming from mobile games on smartphones and tablets.

Following Big Mobile Redesign, StumbleUpon Brings New Pinterest-Like Look To The Web

Screen shot 2012-09-25 at 12.43.07 PMVeteran content discovery platform StumbleUpon has had a rough go of it over the last six months. In order to keep pace with sexy, young newcomers like Pinterest, StumbleUpon pushed a major redesign at the end of last year, introducing a new user experience and recommendation algorithms, as well as brand channels and a "Stumble" button, which took users to random (personalized) articles based on topic. Users didn't love the new rendition, and last week, the 10-year-old company released another big redesign -- this time bringing a bold new look to its iOS apps.

Cardio Workout for Bodyweight | Bodybuilding, Supplements, Diets ...

Today it?s time for the Top 5 Cardio exercises using nothing but your own bodyweight. Now I will say that sprints ? especially hill sprints or stair running are a great cardio workout but this is for people with limited space looking for some home exercise workout solutions or a good hotel room workout .

These are hard ? my clients hate most of them but I love em.

Give the cross-trainer or the treadmill the boot and do some real cardio. Best bit is you can do these anywhere because you only need your own bodyweight.

Gameloft teases Modern Combat 4 at Tokyo Game Show

Android Central

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour was teased at the Tokyo Game Show by Gameloft the other day. While we might not all be particularly happy with the "I <3 iPhone" sessions where this video was aired, and the quality of the graphics and gameplay are hard to make out from this ground-floor video, it will be exciting to see how much has improved since Modern Combat 3.

While the storyline isn't anything particularly riveting or original, games like this tend to push the outer limits of what's graphically possible on current smartphones, and I can only imagine Modern Combat 4 will continue to push the envelope.

Gameloft themselves haven't made an official unveiling through any of their channels, but we can likely expect them to make a bigger splash with their next title soon enough. Any gamers put a lot of time into Modern Combat 3? What would you like to see in the sequel?

Police to ?Patrol? Facebook and Twitter for Terrorists Under EU Plan

facebook big brother

By Christopher Williams

Police across Europe will ?patrol? Facebook, Google and Twitter for postings supporting terrorism under an EU project detailed in a leaked report.

Internet firms also face an array of new obligations to monitor their services for extremist material, according to a document about the?Clean IT? initiative?seen by The Telegraph.

?It must be legal for police officers to ?patrol? on social media. This includes having a profile, joining user groups, sending and receiving messages, on the platform,? the document says.

Officials are also preparing proposals for ?semi automated detection? systems and buttons to allow users to report suspicious activity on social networks and chatrooms to authorities.

?Users must be provided a way to flag/report terrorism and radicalising content as a separate, specific category to flag/report,? the report, produced last month, recommends.

?Providers of chat boxes, email services, messaging systems, social networks, retailing sites, voice over internet protocol ad web forums must have flagging systems.?

The monitoring and flagging systems would be linked to law enforcement agencies, with data shared across Europe.

Civil rights activists warned that Clean IT, funded by a 400,000 euro grant and led by Dutch counter-terrorism officials, could mandate ?vigilantism? online and a clampdown on free speech.

Colorado Springs Community Does Not Burn Down - Waldo Fire ...

Author: Sondra Barr | Total views: 83 Comments: 0
Word Count: 1144 Date:

When the Waldo Canyon Fire erupted, long-time Colorado Springs resident Carol Lyn Lucas had no idea her home of 22 years would soon be gone, one of 346 houses erased from existence.

"To have it wiped out in an afternoon is unfathomable," explains Lucas, who saw the flames cresting over the mountain towards her home as she fled in a whirl of emotion and adrenaline. "We were running in a panic, my son was yelling, 'Oh, my god! Oh, my god!"

With only a few possessions that she was able to quickly gather before being evacuated, the mother of three left behind life as she formerly knew it. "Every inch of that house was a loving space I created for my family," she says. Family heirlooms, antiques, photographs from her 30-year marriage - gone in an instant, never to be replaced. "It's surreal. Everything that represented my security and stability is totally wiped out of my life."

Yet, while Lucas may have lost her house, she has gained a newfound respect for a community that she's called home for so long. In the wake of losing her house, she's found strength and renewal in the kindness of friends and strangers, along with a fresh perspective from being on the receiving end of charity.

"I feel like a nomad now," Lucas says. "I've cried my eyes out, but the one thing I want to stress is the incredible support of the community." Within days, her friends had joined together to lend a hand, collecting clothing and donations to present to Lucas and another player in their Life Time Fitness tennis group who'd also lost her home.

Kelly Solomito initially got the ball rolling. "I started sending emails out to a lot of the women we play tennis with," says Solomito. After learning the two members of the tennis group had lost their homes along with most of their clothing, she asked for clothing and cash donations to buy gift cards for the victims. Explains Solomito, "I thought it might be uplifting to them to have the support of the group and to help them buy things they needed immediately."

A week and a half later, the tennis group presented Lucas and fellow victim, Marthe Schwartz, gift certificates for $2,000 each at a 60-lady-strong luncheon at a local Mimi's Cafe. "Mimi's was wonderful. They put out a special menu for us and bought the two fire victims their meals," says Solomito, "Since then, I've had another $1,000 come in, so they'll each be getting another $500." Lucas says she was totally surprised at the group's generosity because some of the women she'd only played tennis with once, but it was just one of the many unexpected blessings she's received.

Besides the tennis group's help, other organizations have helped ease the pain in a myriad of ways.

"Mountain Chalet gave away running shoes and clothes two weeks ago and I went over there and got a pair of shoes and I just started crying. I was always on the other side of giving and now someone gives me a pair of shoes," says Lucas, who experienced a similar feeling while waiting with other victims for food staples at Care and Share Food Bank. "I just couldn't believe I was in a line like that. I've never experienced that in my life," says Lucas.

According to Shannon Coker, community relations director of Care and Share, the organization has helped many people who're still in shock that they are now on the receiving end of disaster relief. "These folks are in a position where maybe they've never been in, where they're accepting resources from an organization," explains Coker. "We try to explain to everyone, this is what the community wants you to have."

It's not just the local community that's pitched in. A two-week disaster relief food drive yielded an astounding 1.6 million pounds of food, some of it sent in from places as far away as Appalachian State University in North Carolina via boxes filled with non-perishable food and toiletries. "To put it into perspective," says Coker, "Care and Share food drives typically yield about 400,000 pounds of food in a calendar year. This has far exceeded anything we've ever dreamt of."

The day after the fire was at its most ferocious, Care and Share had a mile-long stretch of people standing in front of the facility waiting patiently to donate resources to those affected. It wasn't just individuals either. Coker recently had a company present a $20,000 check from a company that had matched their nationwide employee donations after one of their local workers lost a home in the fire. "They wanted to do something as an organization to help," Coker says.

"Care and Share is part of a leadership committee that has been formed representing a bunch of nonprofits in town that are committed to the long-term recovery for some of these folks who are permanently displaced," explains Coker. "We're here to still help people."

The fire also sparked the idea for Wildfire Tees, colorful t-shirts with inspiring slogans designed to raise money for relief. Local marketer Tucker Wannamaker helped coordinate their efforts in a campaign that went viral overnight. Through the reach of social media, Wildfire Tees has sold over 550,000 shirts to people from around the world. So far, they've written two checks for $67,000 each to Care and Share and a Colorado Red Cross chapter. "It's another avenue for people to help," emphasizes Wannamaker. "People want to be a part of this outside of just staring at the news and seeing Colorado burn."

For the minds behind Wildfire Tees, they're looking forward to the bulk of their next check going towards the state fund for long-term wildfire relief efforts, with additional monies set aside for the more immediate needs of businesses and individuals directly affected by the fire.

"We absolutely want to continue this," says Wannamaker, who says their goal is transitioning into a disaster t-shirt relief organization. "It was great to give a whole bunch of money away. That felt great."

While Lucas and her family have a long road towards healing after the harrowing ordeal of losing their safe haven, she realizes without the support of the community her travails would be far greater. Says Lucas, "This community has been unbelievably supportive and kind."

Living well is not measured by the size of our home or bank account, but by the lives we touch, the impact we have on family and friends and what we accomplish with the talents and resources we have been blessed with. In the face of devastation, the people of Colorado Springs have come together to ease suffering and loss.

Sony Vaio Windows 8 Tablet Hits the FCC, Comes With NFC, Mystery Identity

? September 22, 2012Posted in: NewsFeed

Sony just sent a new tablet with Win 8 to the FCC for testing purposes, a month after unveiling some interesting slates at IFA 2012. While the Sony Vaio Duo 11 already reached the FCC, we?re left wondering what Windows 8 model this is. All we know is that the newcomer is a Vaio unit, that won approval for Bluetooth, WiFi and NFC.

It bears the model number SVJ202A11L and fits in the Vaio line. Reports are saying that the device is made by Foxconn in Taiwan and this is where the trail stops. Speculations say that this could in fact be the Sony Vaio Tap 10 model, that was unveiled at IFA 2012 together with the Sony Vaio Duo 11. The Vaio Tap 20 is a tilting all in one desktop PC with a 20 inch screen with 1600 x 900 resolution and battery power, so it?s basically a huge tablet.

It has NFC, a 1 TB hard drive and it weighs 11.4 pounds, so not very comfortable to carry around. The CPU choice is similar to Vaio Duo 11, so Core i3, i5 or i7 and the OS is Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro, with 4 or 8 GB of RAM. I?m afraid to even imagine the +$1500 price tag of this device?
