Happy Trails | The Cooking Mom

Posted on by

Happy TrailsWinter break is over, and that means my college freshman, Riley, moves back into his dorm this weekend. His classes start Monday. ?It?s been such a blast having him home for the last few weeks. ?He?s my oldest so, this is all new to me. ?Don?t get me wrong, I?m so excited for him. He?s really growing up, learning, and loving school! But, having one of your family members not at the table for dinner is just weird. Sometimes, I even forget and set a place for him. So, let?s just say this holiday break and having him home the last 4 weeks has been wonderful!

Okay, it wasn?t perfect. ?I?ve learned college kids sleep in, big time! They also get pretty independent! Even though my daughter Ireland, missed him a ton, they are typical brother and sisters, so yes there has been that occasional squabble. ?But, for the most part I savored the family time spent over the last few weeks. Board games, skiing (this kids favorite), going snowmobiling up north! They kids also hit the trails up near our cottage in Michigan. There was plenty of snow too, so that made for some seriously good sledding!

My favorite part of having him home had to be all the family dinners. Great conversations and alot of laughs too. It sure has been fun! He?s says he?s ready to go back. I?m not sure I?m ready. But, guess it?s time! Happy trails, Riley! And, to all the college students heading back to class. ?We?ll miss you and hope you have a great spring semester! Anybody else in the same boat? Does it get any easier?
