TRAVEL AND LEISURE: Hongkong and Macau Leisure Trip

Got to travel on a budget six months before my passport will expire, yeah beating the deadline of renewal haha!

This is a DIY travel (do-it-yourself) but I was not scared or anxious instead I was very excited with what I might discover with this travel adventure.

I?ve long been dreaming to travel abroad, it?s one of my fantasies in life, taking a leisure trip outside the country is really liberating like the grandest personal treats of a life time. Months before this trip, I was very anxious, worried where to get my budget but because I was very determined to make this dream come true, I saved every cent I have in my pocket, minimize unnecessary expenses and refrain from dining outside.

Unlike other travelers who saved several months before the trip, I have very little preparation because I was only informed by my friend, Bechay, around February. I even hesitated to join them because I still have to prepare for my graduation in April with skyrocketing expenses. The fact that I just finished my comprehensive exam and the graduation fee is as high as the round trip Davao-Clark ticket, my wallet is bleeding with all these expenditure.

?I was really determined to travel because by January 2014 my passport will expire and I could not use it anymore six months before the expiration, so the June Hongkong trip will be my last chance to hop in. I prayed very hard, asking God?s guidance to help me decide. I asked some signs that if the round trip ticket will only cost less then 8,000 I would proceed.

On February 28, 2013, after checking the promo rates of Airasia, I got the sign I was asking, the round trip ticket?Davao Clark Hongkong ? costs only 7,990!

Here?s the list of the total expenses I incurred (the amount is in peso computing the exchange rate of HK$ 5.30)

1. Round trip ticket: Davao-Clark P3,990.00
2. Round trip ticket: Clark-Hongkong 4,000.00
3. Bluefields Hotel ? Clark (one night) 520.00
5. Delta Hotel ? Kowloon (4 nights) 2,550.00
6. Ocean Park (Online booking) 1,390.00
7. Octopus Card 795.00
8. Peak Tram and Sky Terrace 398.00
9. Meals (4 days) 680.00
10. Cotai Jet round trip (Macau) 1,805.00
11. Guide for one day (Macau) 265.00
12. Pocket Money 7,200.00
13. Terminal Fee (Davao going to Clark) 200.00
14. Terminal Fee (Clark going to HK) 450.00 Travel Tax 1,650.00
15. Terminal Fee (Clark to Davao) 200.00

TOTAL EXPENSES: 26,093.00?

We were not able to go to Disneyland and Ngong Ping 360 but if you decide to go there, the budget will rise to more or less P30,000.00 because Disneyland is HK$450.00 and Ngong Ping round trip is HK$134.00.

These two destinations are both located in Lantau Island near the airport. It?s very far from Kowloon so I and bechay did not bother to go there instead we just strolled around Tsim Sha Tsui visiting Victoria Harbor and Avenue of Stars.

HERE?S AN ACCURATE GUIDE FOR TRAVELERS

Well, if you are traveling on a tight budget and just want to stay in a transient room, I would recommend Delta Hotel instead, this is where we stayed and I could really vouch that the room is very clean and conducive for sleeping.

The hotel has friendly staff and very accommodating, there?s a free wifi, telephone, freebies like shampoo, toothbrush with toothpaste and bath soap, the bathroom is clean. Delta Hotel is located at Chungking Mansion on the 16th floor along Nathan road of Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.

Tsim Sha Tsui is one of the most ideal places to stay in Hongkong because aside from closer to shopping malls and stall markets for pasalubong, it is nearer to two MTR stations: the Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui stations, bus station and Hongkong China Ferry Terminal.

Chunking Mansion is just beside CKE department store and a walking distance from KFC and McDonalds. There's also a money changer at the ground floor and Western Union.

OUR DIY ITINERARY:?

Arrival: June 1, 2013 (Saturday)

I was traveling with one friend, Miss Maribeth Galindo. We left Clark International Airport at 6:25pm and arrived at Hongkong International Airport at 8:00 pm.

It was our first time to travel to Hongkong, we kinda clueless what to do so we did lots of exploring. We just followed the direction/signs posted in the airport. We arrived at Terminal One and the immigration was at the other side of the street.

There?s a coach available outside the glass door (just follow the immigration sign pointing to the door) that would take travelers to the immigration area. We just followed other travelers upon disembarking.

After presenting our passport to the immigration, we proceeded to exit door leading to the bus station. It is located on the level B exit 5, the city flier bus that will pass to Chungking mansion is A21, fare is HK$33.00, bus drivers never give change so prepare for coins, since we were not able to buy an Octopus card and we had no coins available, we paid HK$70.00 and we did not able to get the HK$4.00 change.

For an easy and practical travel around Hongkong, I will advise you to buy an Octopus card at the customer service upon inside the airport, it costs HK$150.00 the consumable is HK$100.00 and the deposit of HK$50.00 will be returned to you together with the remaining amount upon surrendering your card at any customer service outlets at MTR stations before leaving Hongkong.

Chunking Mansion is just beside bus stop number 14 next to CKE mall with a huge TV screen outside, the number of bus stops are reflected on the running screen inside the bus so don?t worry just enjoy the ride.

The travel takes up to one hour.
