Car Insurance for Teenage Drivers | Auto Insurance Quotes

No parent likes to think about their child having a driver?s license and getting themselves a car, but eventually this will happen. When a young driver starts to look for car insurance they are going to find that it can be quite expensive, especially if you are male. The premium for a male driver under the age of twenty-five is usually more expensive than for a female in the same age range. Once they hit twenty-five the premium will usually come down.

There are several things that a student can do to help with their car insurance premiums and making them more affordable. Some of these things include:

Have the student put on the parent?s policy and let them pay for their portion of the monthly premium.

Getting a grade point average (GPA) above three point zero will help your change to have less expensive insurance.

If they only drive for pleasure and not to school that will help lower their monthly premium.

If you are a college student, make sure that your credit history is spotless because car insurance companies use this report as a factor in how much you are going to pay each month.

Make sure that you are a responsible or low risk driver when you apply for car insurance.

It is easier for a girl to get car insurance at a lower affordable rate than boys because boys are normally associated with dangerous and rash driving when you compare them with females.

When you are ready to hit the road make sure that you have insurance before you do. Do comparison shopping to get the best deal in regard to coverage, monthly premium, and down payment. If you are not sure which way you should have your child insured before they begin driving, talk to your own car insurance agent and get their advice. They will be able to tell you if it would be better to add them as another driver on your own policy or get insurance in their own name.

If they are going to be driving an older car, they may be able to get by with only having liability on the car, but if it is a newer car, it might be best to have full coverage. If you do add them to your existing policy you may save over a hundred dollars by doing so. Some car insurance companies even offer car insurance policies that are specifically geared towards the teenage driver. The only drawback to this type of policy is that they usually come with some sort of restrictions such as not driving late at night and making sure that they maintain a safe speed while driving and always wearing their seat belt. Your teenager may also be eligible for a discount if they take a Driver?s Education Course.
