Florida?s Governor Changes Course, Announces Plan to Expand Medicaid under the ACA

In a major policy reversal, Gov. Rick Scott of Florida on Feb. 20 announced that he would support expanding his state?s Medicaid program to cover more poor residents, accepting the federal government?s offer to pay for a three-year expansion of the program, under the terms of the Affordable Care Act; but the final decision on that option will be up to the Florida Legislature.

The Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative (MAeHC), a non-profit organization which has led the charge in the Bay State and New England for health information exchange (HIE), is going to attempt to implement an HIE in the state of New Hampshire, in conjunction with the New Hampshire Health Information Organization (NHHIO). MAeHC will provide executive director management services for the New Hampshire HIE.

Froedtert Health, a three-hospital health system based in Milwaukee, announced a data breach, reporting that one of its employee?s computer account was hacked. The breach, according to a report from the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel, may have affected more than 40,000 patients, although the health system says it found no evidence that any personal information or medical records were accessed.
