Many studies have researched weight loss resulting from changing diet versus increasing activity. Most often, weight loss during programs focused on change in diet and exercise produced up to 300% greater weight loss than programs focused on diet alone. This research is significant because it involved 811 overweight participants over a period of 2 years. Few studies thus far have conducted their research over such a long time.
Therefore, it?s the long-term consequences of the research that matter for your health. Analysis of the study shows that after 2 years there was a significant difference in the weight status of all participants. This answers the question of whether people can maintain changes in exercise and eating habits. The individual outcome, of course, was dependant on individual preferences and how disagreeable or enjoyable the attempted diet or exercise program was.
If you are overweight, it is probably because you consume more calories in food and drink than you burn up. To lose weight, you need to adjust the balance and burn more than you consume. Therefore, you will achieve that by consuming fewer calories and burning more.
Reducing your calories doesn?t necessarily mean you have to go on a ?diet.? All you have to do is avoid some foods that are high in calories from fat, lots of sugar or alcohol. Calorie reduction can also be achieved by reducing your portion sizes. You should also eat smaller portions of those high-calorie foods and fill up on larger portions of low-calorie vegetables and fruits.
In this new study, further substantial drops in calorific consumption were linked to weight loss in overweight and obese men and women, who created a further calorie deficit from changing their physical activity. On average, these successful participants decreased the number of their total calories by 500 per day (250 calories each from diet and exercise). Even small increases in exercise were enough to produce weight loss while still eating the foods they loved. All participants were able to lose weight through increased exercise and changing their diet. This is because they were able to burn more calories, and eliminate empty calories from their diet.
Diet alone will only produce short term results. You need both diet and exercise to achieve a long term outcome. By combining these two you can create an outstanding result of losing weight and keeping it off forever. We?re here to help with a handy weight loss blog.
