Daily Danny ? Blog Archive ? Do Just Five Things - Green Living ...

Hope you?re enjoying this wonderful holiday break! ?Happy Friday! ? Here are five ways to go green:

?

  1. Many dogs and cats are shelters are in need of homes.? One way you can help is to sign up as a ?friend? on your local shelter?s Facebook page and learn about animals that are close to being put down.? By posting the animal?s photo and profile on your Wall, you?ll help show a loving animal to all of your friends (who can also re-post it on their Wall) to help this animal find a home quickly.
  2. Overnight shipping may get your package there in a jiffy, but it also uses a tremendous amount of fuel (not to mention money) to make it happen.??? If it doesn?t absolutely, positively have to be there overnight, opt for ground shipping, which uses more fuel-efficient trucks to move packages.?? One insider tip? If you ground ship between major cities that are close to each other, the chances are it will still arrive the next day at the much cheaper ground shipping price.?? Shipping packages between Philadelphia and New York City or Los Angeles and San Francisco almost always arrive the next day this way.
  3. One simple way to cut back on paper usage is to pay and review your bills online.?? Take a look at all the paper bills that are mailed to you and check to see if you can switch it to an online system.??? This is very easy to do and will help you save time and remove the hassle of buying postage stamps to send them back.
  4. When repainting a room inside your home, don?t opt for paints that claim to be ?low VOC? (short for volatile organic compounds) when many zero-VOC paints now exist in the marketplace.??? If you have the choice to buy odor-less paint at the mainstream home improvement stores without any additional markup in price, why not??? All ?Low-VOC? paints promise is that it does contain some odor, but it doesn?t say how little or how much.?? Go zero whenever you can.
  5. Many cardiovascular pieces of equipment at the gym also have individual televisions connected to them that you can turn on and off.? The next time you?re at the gym, be sure to power off your TV when you?re done working out and turn off other TVs on machines not in use to help reduce power use.
